Holiday Costumes For The Pets

Yes the season is upon us and so we want to be festive. It all starts with Halloween which in the US has become a very big holiday. More so for people with pets and a variety of costumes abound. Costumes for pets can be found in stores from your uptown groomery to your local Dollar Store. And no local holiday festival is without its costume contest for man and beast. The pet store chains have contests and costumes. If you have never attended a pet costume contest it is something not to be missed. Check out your local Petsmart or Petco for costumes and times.

The way to get the best costume for your dog, cat or hamster (Yes, I saw a very cute hamster in a homemade Elf costume for a family Christmas photo) is to know your pet. So animals will let you dress them? Some will and if not, Photoshop is the scheme to go.

When you finally go to pick out or perform a costume for your pet, take a good look at your pet. Does your big feeble Rottweiler somehow remind you of Dick Cheney or some such barking personality? If you can match a costume with your pets’ personality or completely against type is the easiest way to get a great look.

So now there are some basic rules to dressing your pet:

1. Know your pet’s temperament. Does your pet, dog, cat, rat, etc. like being handled? If no and there is a proclivity toward biting, then it is Photoshop for you.

2. However if you have an amiable pet then let your imagination go wild and make or buy the costume of the year. If buying remember take said animal with you as sometimes cute in your head is not cute on your pet.

3. Also never enlist the help of a store employee or stranger to actually dress your pet. The animal may establish up with you but not a stranger. A terrified hamster can inflict a world of damage.

4. And last but not least remember pets for the most part are not used to clothing (as theirs is built in) and will only put up with this for so long. So be considerate and remember who is really enjoying dress up.

No matter what is happening in the world, what really matters is our family and friends.

And yes our fluffy, scaly and feathered friends like to be included as they give us great unconditional love all year long. But do remember they are animals and don’t always understand or care about those crazy human rituals.

Also impartial because you have chosen to net wasted during this celebratory time, please refrain from treating your pet to drugs.

Even though it may seem like a laugh to view a cat staggering around in a pumpkin outfit, in the demolish it is a potentially lethal idea.

So remember have fun this holiday season with your pets and when in doubt Photoshop.
