Top 2009 Halloween Costumes For Adults, Children, and Pets
The National Retail Federation’s 2009 Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey conducted by “BIG research” reports on the costume trends for 2009. According to the report, 47 million adults and 58 million children across the country are dressing up for Halloween this year.
Adults
Although some of the old favorites are mild top selling costumes, there has been a change in the trends. This year there is a drastic decline in Batman, nurses, and politician costumes. The biggest decline was in political costumes which did not even make the list this year. Nurses fell from number the number 5 favorite costume last year, down to number 13.
Not surprising, with all the new interest in vampires on the television and movies, this costume has taken the number 2 slot this year. Witches remained at the number one spot again this year.
The president and CEO of NRF, Tracy Mullin, said that pop culture has always influenced Halloween costumes. The decline in nurses and politician costumes this year might be because people have had enough of the health care reform and politics.
Children
For children, the make-believe life of a princess takes the top spot for the fifth year in a row with tiaras and pink dresses. Witches, Spiderman, pirates, pumpkins and vampires were also top choices for children this year.
Pets
Costumes for pets have become a big business, with many dressing up their four legged friends in costumes for Halloween. Dressed up as a pumpkin will is the top choice for pet owners this year with devil and witch also up near the top of the list.

Exceptional Homemade Halloween Costume Strategies – Puppy Costume Tips
Did you ever hear consumers say that Halloween is their favorite vacation? Nicely, I occur to be one particular of those goofy men and women that contemplate dressing up in ornate costumes and scavenging the town for free chocolate, a vacation.
I am an expert, in truth, on making distinctive and sometimes bizarre Halloween costumes. Perhaps it’s since as a child I wore those pathetic plastic costumes from the dime retailer or possibly it is the reality that my family members has hosted an enormous Halloween gala for the last twenty years. I’m not positive what the reason is, but I definitely get into this vacation.
For virtually the entire year, I believe about and contemplate original costume concepts. I search Ebay and thrift stores for low cost accessories, clothes, wigs and much more. I also set a objective for myself to have a costume design, on paper at least, by Labor Day. Here are some of my wacky, however economical suggestions:
The Kramer
That’s proper, 1 year I dressed up as Kramer from the renowned sitcom Seinfeld. I started out by buying a silky, multi-colored, patterned button down shirt from Target for $14.99 and mismatched it with a loud sport coat that I purchased from a thrift retailer for $five. Following, I located an old pair of my very own khakis that have been just a tad too short and combined them with white socks and black footwear. Since I am a female with prolonged, brown hair, I had to pin up the back of my tresses and curl and tease the front to obtain a Kramer affect. Finally, a chunky $three cigar topped off this hilarious costume.
Richard Simmons
For this somewhat silly notion, I began with buying a brown curly wig for $10 at a local costume shop. I then acquired a white tank top and embellished it with sequins and paint pens spelling out nicely-recognized Simmons phrases like, Sweatin’ to the Oldies and Deal a Meal, on the front and back. Following, I trimmed some curls from the wig and made use of double stick tape to adhere them to the inside of the neckline and armpits, generating the illusion of chest and underarm hair. Finally, I purchased a pair of red shimmering shorts and white bunchy socks to complete this ridiculous, however comfortable costume plan.
Cousin It
For this beloved Adam’s Family members relative I dressed in a black turtleneck, pants, footwear and gloves. Subsequent, I took two shiny grass skirts that had been left over from a previous luau and put an individual around my waist and made use of Velcro to connect the other 1 to a black derby hat developing just one very long, flowing, hair-like garment. I additional black sunglasses and was suddenly transformed into Cousin It.
Mary Katherine Gallagher
This infamous Saturday Evening Live Catholic school girl character came to life a few years ago at 1 of our annual parties. I bought a plaid pleated skirt on Ebay for $8 along with a navy blue vest for $five and dorky eyeglasses for $three. I additional my personal white blouse with a ribboned collar and a head band and also wore high white socks and gym footwear. I genuinely was a superstar that evening!
Paris Hilton
For this notorious and fashionable heiress, I discovered a very long, luxurious blond wig on Ebay for $20. I then bought rhinestone letters that spelled out the name Paris for $10 and strung them on ribbon to produce a sparkling necklace. Upcoming, I wore a darling red mini dress, oversized sunglasses and sexy sandals and carried a little handbag with a stuffed puppy peeking out of the side. These days, a pair of handcuffs would make a hysterical and suitable addition!
